feedback recieved for magazine proposal

Feedback received from music magazine proposal

I received feedback from my media teacher on my magazine proposal. My teacher asked me whether I intended for my magazine to attract male readers and if I wanted to attract male readers to  my magazine what would I do in order to achieve this. From the case studies I carried out  into pop magazines I noticed that their target audience consisted mostly of females and only a small percentage of the pop magazines I researched had male readers . I intend for the target audience of my magazine to be mainly female, based on the research I have carried out as I feel this is an appropriate audience for a pop magazine.

My teacher also questioned the age of my target audience of 12 -16 year olds  which she considered to be quite young. However I believe that the pop genre appeals to young  and teenage girls and this is why I have chosen my target audience to begin from such a young age and what  also reinforced my decision to choose such a young age for my target audience was because of the research I carried out in my cases studies and media kits. This revealed to me that magazines such as Top of the Pops and We Love Pop have a very young target audience.

Photography Studio - Lesson Induction

In the photography induction lesson I learnt the following about the photography studio and equipment:

  • I learnt about soft boxes which are used to diffuse or soften the lights.
  • I learnt that there are two backdrops that I can use for my photo shoot which are black and white.
  • I learnt that I would be using the DSLR Nikon camera for my photo shoot.
  • I learnt that there is an infrared remote control called the godox which you can put on top of the camera and which is also useful for location shoots.
  • I leant that when using the camera you cannot look directly through the screen.
  • I learnt that at the side of the camera that there are two buttons which are "A" and "M". As this will be my first photo shoot I learnt that I should press the "A" button and then when I feel more comfortable I could press the "M" button.
  • I learnt that I could also use lighting umbrellas to create effects with the lighting.
  • I also learnt that I could use reflectors to reflect the light or create shadows.
  • I learnt that when taking photos my model should not be standing too close to the backdrop and should stand a far distance away from the backdrop.
  • I learnt that to take black and white pictures for my photo shoot  I would have to firstly  change the settings before I started taking photos so that there would be no need for editing the pictures later on (time saving)
  • I also learnt that the two settings for the camera which are A&S. A = Aperture Priority and S= Shutter Priority.
  • I leant that the highest number you can set the soft box to is 6 and the lowest you can set it to is 1. I learnt that when the soft box is set at (6)  the intensity of the light is very bright and when the soft box is set at (1) the intensity of the light is softer. This is useful to know as it  will allow me to create different effects in my own photo shoot. I also learnt that for my own photo shoot it would be appropriate if I set the soft box at  3 so that I would be able to adjust the lighting to my preference.
  • Lastly I learnt that in my photo shoot I should turn off the lights so that the lighting in the room would not interfere with my images when taking m pictures.

The photography induction lesson was very useful to me as it has made me familiar with the different and various equipment that I can use when I do my own photo shoot. It has also made me aware of how to use a professional camera and take different shots which was very helpful. This has given me confidence for when I do my own photo shoot.
